So last month was my introduction to the new blog case study I am currently running. If you would like to read the full details of the background and how I got set up, then you can do that here.
I’ll be honest, I don’t have a great deal to report so far as the latter half of July was a bit of a washout for me as I had some sort of flu and really didn’t feel very well.
However, I didn’t want to miss out a month, so I thought I would give a quick update on where I am and put a marker in the sand for the figures I am going to be reporting on in the future.
Blog Posts Published
In the end I only published one blog post on the site in July, a very poor showing. However, I have got a lot clearer in my head on the topics I am going to cover.
Plus, I’ve done some keyword research with a new tool which looks very promising. I’ll see how that goes before I report back on it. My aim is to publish at least 2 blog posts per week and I hope to be significantly more productive during August.
Social Media
The only thing I managed to do was to create some Pinterest pins for the 5 blog posts that are now live. I then shared those to Tailwind communities and started to get a few repins.
As each post is published, I will create 2 pins for it and share is across to Facebook. I would like to add in Instagram too, but to be honest I feel time may be at a premium so at this early stage writing is going to be much more of a focus than socials.
Traffic
I am tracking traffic via Clicky and so I can report the following amazing (ahem) figures for July.
Unique Visitors: 6
Page Views: 7
Bounce Rate: 13%
Yes, a pretty heady month in terms of traffic. Let’s hope figures rise in August.
Income
There are a few affiliate links on the site so far and that’s all.
As expected, no income to report.
Expenses
As reported last month, expenses are as follows.
Domain & Hosting: $9 per month (This is an approx calculation as my hosting is split across multiple sites, but we will go with this as it’s pretty close).
Theme & Plugins: $0 currently, as using a free theme.
Email Provider: Again, this is split between multiple sites so we are going to round it off at $5.
Blog Posts: $0 as currently all content is being written by me. If I start to outsource, that will be added as an expense later.
Conclusion
So all in all a very uneventful month. However, in my mind I am clearer on my direction and that can only be a good thing.
I still feel very motivated by this project and really loving being back in the deep end of blogging. It was what made me fall in love with building a business in the first place and the challenge hasn’t lost any of its charm.
Now, it’s time to put all my plans into action.
